Whereas the Nifty closed at 5,876.75, down 20.20 points or 0.34 per cent. It touched a high of 5,899.95 and a low of 5,853.90 in trade today. 

The Nifty Gainers are: 

1. Tata Motors Up by 6.8%, Sun Pharma Up by 5.5%, CIL Up by 3.3%

2. HCL Tech & HDFC Bank Up  4.1% Each, ONGC Up 3%

3. UltraTech Cement Up 2.7%, Oil India Up 2.5%, HUL Up 2.2%

The Nifty Losers are:

1. Siemens India & DLF Down by 7.5%, Maruti Suzuki Down by 7%

2. JSPL Down by 6.7%, BPCL Down by 5.3%, L&T & Power Grid Down 4.8% Each

Sensex, Nifty Closing news

The Sensex closed at 19751.19, down 30 points today, after touching a high of 19,902.60 earlier in the day. The Nifty slipped from the day's high of 6,038.50, to close at 5987.25, down 11.65 points over the previous close.

Shares of ONGC dropped by 2.08 per cent to Rs 325.55 after rising 26.3 per cent in last few session. The two most index-heavy with their 16 per cent weight Reliance Industries and Infosys fell by 0.79 per cent to Rs 886.35 and 0.31 per cent to Rs 2,762.35, respectively. IDFC fell by 5.71 per cent to Rs 158.65. Bank of Baroda lost 7.5 per cent to Rs 802.10 after the lender posted a 21.5 per cent decline in its net profit at Rs 1,011.62 crore for the quarter ended December.

The Sensex is 50 points up at 20,157. It was down by 56 points when the markets opened. The Sensex closed at 19990.90, down 112.45 points after touching 20,203.66 earlier in the day. The Nifty closed at 6049.90, down 24.90 points after touching a high of 6,111.80 intra-day.

The Reserve Bank of India reduced repo rate or the rate at which RBI lends to banks by 25 basis points from 8% to 7.75%. RBI has reduced the CRR(cash reserve ratio) from 4.25% to 4%. It has reduced cash reserve ratio by 25 basis points, which will release around Rs 18,000 crore of liquidity into the banking system. This will be effective from the fortnight beginning February 9, 2013. 

The top losers for the day are State Bank of India fell by 1.32 per cent to Rs 2,357.30, HDFC Bank down by 2.54 per cent to Rs 653, Bank of India down by 4.01 per cent to Rs 341, Bank of Baroda down by 2.64 per cent to Rs 847.15, Canara Bank down by 2.23 per cent to Rs 471.80, Yes Bank down by 1.92 per cent to Rs 512.25 and Punjab National Bank down by 1.45 per cent to Rs 859.30.

The Sensex closed up 179.75 points or 0.90% at 20103.53, and the Nifty ended the day 55.30 points or 0.92% up at 6074.65. State Bank of India rose 2.22 percent, while ICICI Bank gained 0.73 percent. DLF  rose 3.2 percent, while Unitech surged 7 percent higher, recouping its 7 percent fall.
Shares in Reliance Communications gained 7.62 percent. Shares in ITC gained 0.8 percent to Rs 299.75. Shares in Reliance Industries ended 0.4 percent lower.
