Sensex gains 0.4% in early trade, Rupee falls to 56


The Sensex rose as much as 0.4 percent early Tuesday trading at 16717.33, led by gains in Tata Motors, L&T and RIL. The broader 50-share NSE index was up 0.2 percent at 5,077.35.

At 9:20 a.m., the 30-share 
BSE index was trading, up 0.4 percent at 16,785.16 . L&T (1.7 percent), Tata Motors (1.4 percent) and RIL (0.7 percent) led the gains. The 30-share index has touched a high of 17,109.95 and a low of 16,636.09 today.

The Indian Rupee (INR) fell nearly one per cent to 55.90 against the dollar on Monday. At 10:11, the rupee was at 55.61, 15 0.29 per cent below the previous close of 55.90.

Most active stocks for today are: Sterlite industries(India) Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd. , Tata steel Ltd., And State bank of India.
